Mr. Nadella’s Azure goes to China

Gigaom

Microsoft(s msft) now claims to be the first public cloud to set up shop in China via it’s previously announced partnership with 21Vianet.

It probably won’t be alone in that huge market for long, however. In December, Amazon(s amzn) Web Services announced plans to open up a China region sometime in 2014, and news on that front could come along as soon as today at the AWS Summit in San Francisco. Or maybe not.

The cloud news continues to flow this week. On Tuesday Microsoft rebranded Windows Azure, stripping of its “Windows” logo and 30 years of history. Google announced sweeping price cuts and new services. Expect more later today out of the AWS Summit and Thursday when Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella makes his first truly public appearance since getting the top spot.
