Hinge: Only Friends of Friends


With the rise of popularity comes competition: Hinge.

The mobile application, Hinge, takes the classier approach of matching their users with the Facebook integration. At noon, Hinge sends out a list of matches based on common connections with friends. It is thought to be geared towards a more romantic older crowd. The $4 million in funding ensures that advertising for the different user intention to limit the pool of applicants.


The CEO of Hinge, Justin McLeod, told TechCrunch, “When we ask our users, they say they use them differently. ‘I use Tinder when I’m out and about or bored or want to mess around, and Hinge is where I meet the people I want to date’” (Knibbs, 2013).
